Other notes: Works by Rochus van Veen rarely appear on the market; van Veen specialised in natural history subjects such as insects, birds and funghi. Rochus van Veen was a member of the family of Otto van Veen who was Rubens's first master, and he was also the brother of Gerardus van Veen (circa 1620-1683) who also specialised in painting fish and birds. He was celebrated enough for Houbraken to include him in his Lives of the Netherlandish Painters (1721 edition, Volume 3, p.309).

There is a strip of discolouration along the top edge.
Paper somewhat crinkled. Under glass. Some loss of colour.
Pentimenti can be seen.
