Condition Report
The painting is executed in oil on a canvas support which has not been lined. The canvas tension is slightly slack and stretcher bar marks have formed, following the line of the wooden frame behind. The paint layers are in a good, stable condition overall. A network of age cracks has formed, slightly pulling the canvas forward in areas. There are a few slightly raised lines of craquelure. The artist has made minor changes to the composition as it progressed, which are now visible to the viewer, such as a the reins of the horse. The thin varnish layer is matte and a little uneven with a slight haze present in the darker paint passages.
