J.W. Benson, London - A Victorian Sterling silver full hunter pocket watch

circa 1889, the signed white dial, 41mm diameter, with black Roman numerals, copper coloured spade hands, subsidiary seconds register at 6 o'clock and chemin de fer chapter ring, gilt three quarter plate movement marked THE LUDGATE WATCH JW BENSON PATENT NO4658 BEST LONDON MAKE BY WARRANT TO HM THE QUEEN LUDGATE HILL LONDON NO 40410, case, 51mm diameter, front cover hinged at 9 o'clock, verso hinged at 6 o'clock, plain and polished, interior numbered 86 with mark of JW Benson and London hallmarks for Sterling silver, the cuvette similarly marked, and with presentation engraving, 123.4g gross and presented with the winding key

Condition Report

Case: Overall in fair to good condition with no obvious sign of repair. Some surface scratches, scuffs, dents and dings as to be expected, commensurate with wear. Front cover spring functional though a little hesitant. Caseback a good fit. Hallmarks inside clear and crisp.

Dial: Damage between 2 and 3 o'clock. Hairline crack from edge at 6 o'clock to the subdial, and from the subdial at 9 o'clock to the number VIII

Movement: In working order though not tested for timekeeping.
