A cased set of four Georgian steel and marcasite buckles for shoes and knee breeches

the large pair of shoe buckles and the smaller matching pair to clasp the breeches at the knee, of rectangular cushion shape and curved to fit over the instep or around the leg, set with lines of harlequin cut marcasites, the shoe buckles with eight larger stones regularly spaced by a double line of smaller ones, the knee buckles with a single line of larger and slightly smaller marcasites; steel backings to both, the shoe buckles with leather in-fill, and engraved on the back L or R, and with a novel spring release mechanism; shoe buckles 6.1 x 4.5cm, knee buckles 3.0 x 2.4cm; presented in a period, though later, fitted leather case with blue velvet and satin lining
