Condition Report
All three of these pieces are in good condition for age, there is no obvious damage, loss or repair, merely dirt and minor wear appropriate to age; all parts work as they should.
The spider: both the ruby and the spinel have small insignificant inclusions; the spinel is an unusual colour and may possibly be synthetic (spinels have been made synthetically since the 1890s) but there is no loupe visible evidence to indicate this.
Pearl pin: the back and sides of the pearls are very dirty and need a thorough wash; they have a very good lustre, and are even and well matched; the pin is slightly bent, the metal has some tarnish, tests for 14ct gold.
The amethyst pin: the stone is very dirty, especially the back.
The boxes have slight wear, but are generally in very good order, and of high quality.
