Very possibly a study for St Joseph in a composition of the Adoration.

Condition Report
Oil on canvas which has an early lining. The canvas is in plane with good tension. There is some raised edges to the craquelure, notable in the thicker paint of the sitter's forehead. Overall the paint layer is stable. Overpaint is present in the darker paint passages, applied in a brushy, free manner. Strokes of overpaint have also been used to reinforce the sitter's eyes and hair. The gilding on the frame has a distressed appearance with scattered losses. The glazing is dirty both inside and out.
