Conceived in 1984 in an edition of just ten, the present work is a maquette for Frink’s larger work of the same title. Standing sentinel at the Eagle Squadron Association Memorial in Grosvenor Square, London, the work memorialises the work of the largely American complement of fighter pilots and other personnel who served in the three Royal Air Force ‘Eagle Squadrons’ prior to the participation of the United States of America in World War II. Recognised as a national emblem for the United States since 1782, Frink utilises the allegorical figure of the eagle to commemorate the valour and strength of the fallen men.

Sold for £18,000
