A cased set of six Elizabeth II silver gilt goblets

mark of William Comyns & Sons Ltd. (Richard Comyns), London 1966, display marked, each in the Jacobean style, the bowl of campana form with flared rim, short knopped column and pedestal foot, the side of each engraved GOODWOOD 1967 THE WILLS MILE WON BY ST. CHAD, 7.5cm diameter at the lip, 13cm high, 51.3ozt gross, presented in a blue fitted wooden case with hinged cover, lined in cream satin and blue velvet, retailed by Kemp Brothers of Bristol

The Wills Mile was a horse race open to horses aged 3 years or older, established in 1967. It was run at Goodwood over a distance of 1 mile and was scheduled to take place each year in late August. Its name was changed to the Goodwood Mile in 1971, and was renamed the Waterford Crystal Mile in 1975. It is currently known as the Celebration Mile.

The winner of the first race in 1967 was St Chad, ridden by George Moore and trained by Noel Murless.

Condition Report

Overall in good condition with no obvious sign of damage or repair. Some surface scratches and very minor bruising, as to be expected. Hallmarks and engraving clear and readable. Some very minor wear to the gilding in one or two areas. Case in good condition.
