one depicting a couple under a tree, the man playing a violin and the lady carrying a pail above her head, inscribed verso 'James Stewart or Jimmy Strength, died at Tweedmouth aged 115, married 5 times, father of 27 children' and 'Mary Hall the alnwick water carrier', the other depicts two figures under a tree, one on crutches the other riding a donkey and inscribed 'Thomas Patterson better known as Mr(?) Tom' and 'Wm Cleghorn better known as Billy Con... or Crutchy Billy'

Condition Report
the 'Crutchy Billy' picture has a small tear to the top right corner(see penultimate image)
Jimmy Strength has some black paint loss to his body. The frame appears to have originally been black. It has been taped around the outer edge to keep the frame together and then painted gold.
The frame on Crutchy Billy appears more original
Both are very original but with discoloration to the backing paper as to be expected
