Other notes: John Stevenson Stewart was the son of Alexander Bannatyne Stewart (1836-1880) of Ascog Hall, Isle of Bute, Scotland. Alexander Bannatyne Stewart married Fanny Stevenson in 1862, and commissioned Sir Daniel Macnee to paint his son's portrait.
Ascog House, the seat of a branch of the Stewarts is a typical seventeenth-century Laird’s house. It is now owned by the Landmark Trust.
