Condition Report
We feel in essence that this is a period stool but it has had heavy restoration.
It has possibly been stripped and the colour has been restored. Stretchers have likely been replaced, as the profile of the stretcher is too perfect for a 17th century stool. The overhangs to the top feel correct. There are no evidence of fixings to a previous top or base. Top shows honest wear and is hand hewn. Waxy finish generally, but colour is artificial which may be due to the aforementioned stripping or restoration.
