Syren, Geneve - A George V Sterling silver half hunter pocket watch and chain with 2 fob medals

the watch, circa 1924, spring-loaded outer cover hinged at 9 o'clock decorated with engine turned engraving, with blue enamel Arabic numerals and inner chemin de fer chapter ring around the circular glazed aperture, the unsigned white dial, 42mm diameter, with white Arabic numerals, blued double spade and whip hands, subsidiary seconds register at 6 o'clock and chemin de fer chapter ring, signed and jewelled crown wind movement with onion shaped winder, case, 50mm diameter with milled edge, verso hinged at 9 o'clock, decorated with engine turned engraving around a central belted and vacant escutcheon shaped cartouche, inner numbered 467012 with Birmingham hallmarks for Sterling silver and casemaker's mark of the Dennison Watch Case Company, the cuvette similarly marked, 107.3g gross; the chain with mark of Booth & Biggs Ltd., Birmingham 1896, rolled curb links graduating from 7mm to 5mm each stamped with lion passant, terminating at one end with a swivel catch and at the other with a jump ring supporting two silver medals, one with mark of Robert Pringle & Sons, Birmingham 1934, the other with mark of William Hair Haseler, Birmingham 1900, fixed T bar on a short length of chain 5cm from the end, 37cm overall length, 56.7g including the medals, total gross weight 164g (4)

Condition Report

Crystal - Outer complete and firm, inner complete, but out of the bezel. Some minor surface scratches to both.


Dial - Some discolouration - possibly as a result of repairs - at the very edge at 1, 6 8 and 11 o'clock. Not immediately obvious to the naked eye.


Movement - In working order, but not tested for timekeeping or endurance. Crown engages and disengages positively, and the hands move freely in both directions.


Case - Some surface scratches as to be expected and commensurate with age and wear. One or two bruises to the case back. Hinges do not appear strained.


Chain - Some minor wear to the links as to be expected and commensurate with age and wear. Swivel catch in good order


Accessories - Some surface scratches as to be expected and commensurate with age and wear. Hallmarks clear and readable
