Robert Hannah (1812-1909), the purchaser of the present picture at the artist's studio sale, was likewise a painter. Cooke had left Hannah some money to spend on 'an example of my art'.

Condition Report
The painting is executed in oil on a wooden panel support. The panel is very slightly bowed but overall sound. The paint layers are in an excellent condition. The varnish is clear and glossy with a few localised matte patches and some fly spots.
