In this series of etchings of cows, Cuyp took animals that appear in paintings by him including works that are today in Budapest and London (National Gallery and Dulwich Art Gallery). The collector's mark 'RB' (Lugt 2192) has traditionally been associated with the Earls Bathurst or a Richard Buckney, whose collection was sold at Sotheby's in 1867.
