David Thomas - a diamond set sunburst ring

designed as a hemisphere of radiating bead-ended and diamond-headed bi-coloured sparks with twenty round brilliant cut diamonds, and a centrepiece much larger diamond, the sparks emanate from a textured boss set on a tapered and heavily textured band, size L, stamped inside with the designer's signature, and '18ct'; total estimated weight of diamonds 1.80cts, gross weight 20.9g; in original David Thomas ring box
Other notes: David Thomas was born in 1938 and, in collaboration with his daughter, Jessie, is still active. A wunderkind of British jewellery designers and makers, coming to prominence in the 1960s and '70s, with his own Chelsea workshop-retail outlet, he was a master craftsman and rose to be prominent in the Goldsmiths Livery Company. A near-identical ring to this one is featured in an article in the Goldsmiths Gazette, no. 5, in 1984, a copy of which is included with the lot.

Sold for £4,200

Condition Report
The diamonds are bright, white and lively stones, all present and correct. A few of the white gold, pin-headed sparks are slightly bent: this is not serious. The shank has a sound, solid feel to it; and the ring sits more neatly and comfortably on the hand than might be expected. The diameter of the principal diamond is 6.05-6.12mm; it's colour is estimated at I, but the setting makes judging the colour difficult, estimated clarity possibly VS. Gross weight 20.97g.
This ring is a well-known design by David Thomas - a modern classic in very good condition.
